President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit.

Minnikhanov congratulated the Turkmen leader and all Turkmen citizens on the 31st anniversary of the country's independence, noting the huge successes in its socio-economic development, and also expressed deep gratitude to Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his support and special attention to the development of bilateral cooperation.

The President of Tatarstan highly appreciated the trade and economic cooperation between Ashgabat and Kazan, which at the end of last year was expressed in the amount of trade turnover of 77.5 million dollars.

At the meeting, the possibility of increasing export-import operations was considered. In particular, reserves were noted in such areas as oil production, gas transportation, automobile, aircraft, shipbuilding, the supply of chemical products, and so on.

“The Republic of Tatarstan” online publication also reports that at the end of October, the cities of Ashgabat and Mary will host Days of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan in Turkmenistan, within which there will be events dedicated to the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria.

Rustam Minnikhanov thanked Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the attention and support of the Tatars living in Turkmenistan.
