Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan Mansour Ahmad Khan said that the countries involved in the TAPI gas pipeline project want to promote and implement the project. This is reported by the Afghan website Tolo News.
The Pakistani plenipotentiary emphasized that the security problems facing the TAPI pipeline have been resolved and it is time to complete the project.
At the same time, he noted that the "lack of banking transactions" is one of the main problems of TAPI.
“All countries participating in the TAPI project want the TAPI project to move forward as soon as possible, because it will be important for the supply of energy from Central Asia to South Asia. One of the main concerns in the past has been security. One of the problems now in the current circumstances is the lack of banking transactions,” said the Ambassador of Pakistan.
The Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan believes that the implementation of the TAPI project will boost the economy and reduce the level of poverty in the country. Thus, Deputy Economy Minister Abdul Latif Nazari said that the TAPI project was not launched on time due to technical problems.
“There are no specific political obstacles for the TAPI project, but there are some technical problems that will be resolved in the near future,” he said.
The construction of the TAPI gas pipeline with a length of 1814 kilometers and a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year started in December 2015 on the territory of Turkmenistan. According to experts, the gas pipeline will allow Ashgabat to diversify its gas exports, give Kabul the means to solve the most acute social problems, and allow Islamabad and Delhi to cover the energy deficit. After coming to power, representatives of the Taliban movement also declared their interest in TAPI.
Previously, due to the inter-Afghan conflict, the TAPI section, which should pass through the territory of Afghanistan, was considered the most problematic. With the end of the civil war, the prospect of building TAPI in the foreseeable future became real.
