President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the heads of the country's military and law enforcement agencies to make every effort to eradicate corruption and develop proposals for making appropriate changes and additions to the country's legislation, the Watan news program of the Turkmen State Radio and Television reported.

The head of state gave such an instruction after the report of Prosecutor General Batyr Atdaev, who reported at a meeting of the State Security Council on the revealing of a number of corruption schemes in the system of the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations.

During inspections, the Prosecutor General's Office found that the heads and employees of a number of trade structures - consumer unions, markets and shops in Ashgabat and Akhal region, were illegally engaged in the resale of cottonseed oil and flour, which were set at preferential prices, and were also involved in other corruption schemes. Some of the perpetrators were sentenced to 20 years in prison. Other participants in the crimes were sentenced to 8 and 15 years.
The Turkmen leader once again reminded that he intends to take all necessary measures to eradicate corruption, reveal and relentlessly combat bribery, so no one should think that such acts can be hidden.

“No one has the right to steal the property of the people, the state,” said Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The President also instructed the heads of military and law enforcement agencies to urgently develop a seven-year work program for the headed institutions to modernize and improve their activities.
