Pakistan is interested in developing trade relations with Turkmenistan
President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Muhammad Shakil Munir paid a visit to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the capital of Pakistan and held talks with the leadership of the diplomatic mission on the possibilities of developing bilateral trade relations, taking into account the existing potential of the parties.
During the exchange of views, Ambassador Atajan Movlamov suggested organizing an online conference with the participation of ICCI and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan so that the business communities of both countries could directly discuss areas of cooperation and study its prospects in more detail. He added that the Embassy of Turkmenistan will present to the ICCI members a presentation of the country's export products and priority areas of trade cooperation.
Movlamov also mentioned that Turkmenistan could supply liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Pakistan to meet the energy needs of the country's market, ProPakistani newspapers reported. Munir highly appreciated the ambassador's proposal to hold an online conference between the chambers of commerce and industry of Turkmenistan and Pakistan, and also noted that Turkmenistan, which has no access to the sea, can develop its international trade and exports through the ports of Gwadar and Karachi.
He stressed that Central Asia is an attractive market for Pakistan, and close cooperation with Turkmenistan will help Islamabad to expand its commodity presence in the region.
Two weeks ago, Foreign Ministers of both countries Shah Mahmoud Qureshi and Rashid Meredov on the sidelines of the 48th session of the OIC Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad noted the need for closer cooperation between Pakistan and Turkmenistan in the field of trade and investment, and improved transport connectivity.
