During a government meeting on Friday, President Berdimuhamedov approved the construction projects of two RO-RO class ferries with an open deck, as well as one dry cargo ship, presented by the Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mammetkhan Chakiev.

The construction of the presented ferries with a carrying capacity of 5.1 thousand tons, as well as other vessels, will be carried out by the Open Joint-Stock Company Shipbuilding and Repair Plant “Balkan”. The lower decks of the ferries planned for construction are provided for the carriage of freight railway cars.

The Turkmen leader also instructed the head of the Transport and Communications Agency to continue mastering the construction of new types of watercraft.

As part of the program for the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan until 2025, the OJSC “Balkan” Shipbuilding and Repair Plant is to build and put into operation 12 ships.
