The volume of Turkmen gas exports to Azerbaijan via Iran can be increased to 15 billion cubic meters per year, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owdji said after meeting with the official delegation of Turkmenistan, Trend news agency reported.
This could make Azerbaijan the second largest importer of Turkmen blue fuel after China, which bought $34 billion cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan in 2021.
The Iranian Oil Minister added that they are now preparing to sign documents on expanding cooperation in the field of energy exchange between Iran and Turkmenistan.
Now Azerbaijan purchases 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas per year through Iran under a swap supply contract, which was signed in November 2021. More than 4 million cubic meters of natural gas are supplied from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan every day
In December, it was reported that Turkmenistan had significantly increased the supply of natural gas to Russia. Exports reached 10 billion cubic meters, which is twice the level of supplies in 2020.
