Turkmen athletes will start training for the 2024 Olympics
15.01.2022 | 19:36 |President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to develop a training program for the national teams of Turkmenistan for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
According to the decree of the head of state, signed during the government meeting held on Friday, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy was instructed, together with a number of departments, to ensure the participation of the national teams of Turkmenistan in the main competitions of the four-year period, which will be held in Paris.
This program provides for holding training camps at the facilities of the Olympic Village in Ashgabat and Avaza.
At the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, weightlifter Polina Guryeva entered the history of world sports as the first Olympic medalist of Turkmenistan. She won a silver medal in the weightlifting competition in the weight category up to 59 kilograms.
For this achievement, upon arrival to the homeland, Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov in a solemn ceremony handed over 50 thousand US dollars on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan, as well as the keys to a three-room apartment and a prestigious foreign car.
