On October 7, USAID's Program to Facilitate Improvement of Governance in Turkmenistan, in partnership with the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET), hosted an online seminar designed to support the development of the Ashgabat Stock Exchange and to attract investment to the country's economy.
The event marks the beginning of a fruitful partnership between USAID and the government of Turkmenistan to develop the securities market, the press release of the organization says.
“I believe that a freely functioning stock exchange can be a guarantor of the nation's prosperity,” said US Ambassador to Turkmenistan Matthew Klimow speaking at the opening of the seminar. “I hope that our cooperation in this area will open up opportunities for promoting the economic prosperity of Turkmenistan and for attracting foreign as well as domestic investors.
Currently, within the framework of cooperation, a series of seminars is planned to discuss the advantages and characteristics of healthy financial markets, conclusions and recommendations of comparative legal analysis and, ultimately, improve the legal framework to increase foreign investment in the national economy.
The Program to Facilitate Improvement of Governance in Turkmenistan funded by USAID and implemented by QED Group LLC in partnership with the government of Turkmenistan, aims to help to improve the efficiency, accountability, and transparency of government institutions in the country.
