Iran ready to negotiate the resumption of Turkmen gas supplies
14.09.2021 | 19:48 |The recently appointed Minister of Oil of the Islamic Republic of Iran, commenting on Tehran's gas policy, said in an interview with reporters: “One of the issues that we are dealing with is the issue of gas diplomacy with neighboring countries, including Turkmenistan,” Iranian media reported.
Javad Ouji added: "In this regard, we will also hold talks with Turkmenistan and other neighboring countries to increase gas exports and trade."
Since January 1, 2017, Turkmenistan has stopped gas supplies to Iran due to the accumulation of a large debt of the Iranian company for the gas supplied earlier. Despite long negotiations, the parties could not come to a common denominator, and the Turkmengaz State Concern had to file a claim with the International Court of Arbitration (ICA).
Last year, the ICA announced its verdict over the Iranian-Turkmen gas dispute in favor of Turkmenistan.
