The only representative of Turkmenistan in the hammer throw tournament at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Mergen Mammadov, was unable to reach the final. The athlete performing in qualification group B showed the 15th result - 67.53 meters. This was not enough to get into the list of 12 participants in decisive starts.
The best result in qualification was shown by Pole Wojciech Nowicki - 79.78 meters. In second place is American Rudy Winkler - 78.81. The third place at the preliminary stage was taken by the Norwegian Eyvind Henriksen, who threw a hammer 78.79 meters.
