The foundation laying of a new airport in small town Jebel near Balkanabat will take place on Wednesday. It is expected that president Berdimuhamedov will take part in the solemn ceremony during his working trip planned for July 14 to Balkan region.

Considering the geographical location of the western seaside region of the country, this airport should play a significant role in development of transport-logistic system of Turkmenistan.

Originally under the project the airport in Jebel will have a capacity of 100 passengers an hour. However presence in its immediate proximity the famous balneal resort of Mollakara, and also Avaza tourist zone in this area cause in the long term expansion of capacity of the new object of aviation infrastructure which will help to ease the load of International airport of Turkmenbashi during seasons of tourist activity.

Besides, Balkans is the oil and gas region rich with a source of raw materials where an industrial cluster is actively formed with already operating innovative enterprises and big plans for escalating of industrial capacities. In this aspect the airport in Jebel will become one more base point for distribution of operational and trading goods traffics.

The International Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO will be the leading partner in conformity maintenance to the standards of functioning conventional by world airlines and equipment of Jebel airport which has been already given in the project an international status.

So in Turkmenistan there will appear one more international airport. We will remind, in April, 2010 in the near-Caspian city of Turkmenbashi the opening of the international air harbour took place. The new complex of the Ashkhabad international airport was put into operation in September, 2016. In February, 2018 in the administrative centre of Lebap region ― Turkmenabat the international airport was commissioned.

More recently - in June, 2021 - the network of the airports of Turkmenistan included the new international airport with a capacity of 100 passengers an hour in the city of Kerki. And here the building of one more international airport - in the city of Jebel, the commissioning of which will allow to give a strong impulse to development of economy of Balkan region, diversification of export at the expense of tourist services, begins.
