The heads of national human rights organizations of Central Asian countries discussed in Geneva further steps on enhancing multilateral cooperation.
The panel discussion, attended by the ombudsmen of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, representatives of the Global Alliance of national human rights institutions, UNDP, UNHCR took place on the sidelines of the annual symposium of the GANHRI, hosted by the Switzerland from 21 to 23 February.
The meeting’s participants exchanged opinions on promotion of developing a "road map" for regional cooperation, as the parties agreed during the first dialogue held in November last year in Almaty under the auspices of the OHCHR/UNDP Support Initiative for National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in Central Asia.
The plans to hold a Central Asian forum on the protection of the rights of migrant children have been considered as well.
Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, established in 1993, is an independent body dedicated to fully supporting NHRIs in accordance with the Paris principles related to the status of national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights.
This year, over 100 NHRIs from all over the world discussed the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and elderly persons.
Central Asian ombudsmen synchronize positions on further development of cooperation
