Tajikistan sells water from a dangerous lake - China volunteered to buy it
18.07.2018 | 14:24 |Tajikistan has put up for sale the water of the picturesque mountain lake of Sarez, located in the Murgab district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. The length of the lake is about 70 kilometers, the maximum depth is about 500 meters, the water level is about 3255 meters above sea level, the water volume is more than 17 square kilometers.
And the country supposes to sell it without scooping it out of the lake as necessary, but simply by completely draining it of water. This was stated by the head of the Committee on Environmental Protection of Tajikistan Talbak Salimov.
He said that it is necessary to drain water from the Lake of Sarez as soon as possible, since the threat of large-scale floods in Central Asia remains. "We do not know when it can happen - today, tomorrow, in a year," the head of the department said.
Salimov is sure that the devastation of the lake will not hurt Tajikistan, because there are plenty of water resources in the country without this.
Judging by the photos, this lake is the most beautiful place. You can not even say that it carries such a danger. But one does not contradict the other. Although it is said that beauty will save the world, on the other hand, beauty is a terrible force.
The lake, belonging to the lagoon lakes, arose as a result of a 9-point earthquake in March 1911, which blocked the bed of the Bartang River. Now this reservoir poses a danger to the settlements located downstream. Specialists believe that in the event of a breakthrough, a huge mass of water by the mudflow will pass right up to the Aral Sea.
The Tajik side has repeatedly suggested that states in need of water resources establish drinking water supplies from the Lake of Sarez. This project was discussed with Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. But further discussions did not go well.
And, of course, who, if not China, to take on this, it is not quite usual to buy the water of the whole lake. As a result, the Tajik commercial bank "Orienbank" and the Hong Kong company "Heaven Springs Harvest Group" signed a partnership agreement for the establishment of an enterprise for the sale of water resources of the Lake of Sarez. The Chinese company explained that the company will produce clean drinking water on Sarez, and then deliver it to other states.
Water is the most familiar and necessary substance for a person. At the same time, according to the UN forecasts, by 2040, the population of the earth will reach nine billion people, and fresh water reserves will be able to cover only 70% of the needs of mankind. Experts believe that it's time to call fresh water "blue gold".
