WEF chief says China will play a key role in strengthening global business resilience. In an era of supply chain disruptions, economic volatility and rapid technological change, resilience has become one of the main priorities for international companies. The ability to adapt to new risks increasingly depends on how effectively businesses build flexible global networks and long-term strategies.

Alois Zwinggi, President and Chief Executive Officer of the World Economic Forum, said China will play a central role in helping global companies withstand supply chain disruptions and economic volatility.

Speaking with China Global Television Network, he stressed China's importance in navigating global challenges and expressed hope for deeper cooperation between the World Economic Forum and China in emerging sectors.

Commenting on the concept of “China Opportunity 2.0,” introduced by Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos, Zwinggi said the framework points to expanding opportunities for international enterprises.

According to him, business leaders can no longer rely simply on having a backup plan in case of disruption. Companies are increasingly focused on building resilience directly into their organizational structures and supply chains.

Zwinggi said that globally operating companies have little choice but to include China in the design of their resilience strategies. He linked this to the scale of the Chinese economy, its manufacturing capacity and its major role in global supply chains.

The year 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the World Economic Forum's Beijing office. Zwinggi also noted that cooperation between the WEF and China dates back to 1979.

Since 2007, the Summer Davos has been held annually in China, alternating between Tianjin and Dalian. Over the years, it has become one of the Forum's key platforms for entrepreneurship, innovation and next-generation growth companies.

The event brings together business leaders, policymakers, innovators and representatives from different countries to discuss economic challenges and explore how new technologies can help create new models of growth.

Zwinggi also expressed hope that cooperation between the WEF and China will deepen further, particularly in areas such as green technologies, clean energy and artificial intelligence.

He added that future editions of the Summer Davos could become an even broader international platform where participants gather in China not only to understand developments in the country, but also to jointly address global challenges.

According to CCTV+, Alois Zwinggi's remarks underline China's continuing importance in global supply chains and the development of new technologies. The growing focus on resilience, green energy and artificial intelligence suggests that these areas may become some of the main fields of future cooperation between China, international businesses and global organizations.
