China's Communist Party steps up anti-corruption efforts

The sixth plenary session of the 20th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Beijing on Saturday. The session was addressed by Li Xi, a member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CCDI. The session called for steadfastly following the Chinese path of anti-corruption and promoting the high-quality development of discipline inspection and supervision work in the new era, with higher standards and more concrete measures.
The fight against corruption is not merely an administrative task but a moral imperative that determines the people's trust in power and the resilience of the political system itself. For years, China has consistently pursued a course of tightening disciplinary control, understanding that the purity of its ranks and the transparency of decisions are the foundation of long-term stability. Every session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection reaffirms that the fight against corruption has no finish line — it is a continuous process of self-improvement and strengthening of party discipline.
The session reviewed the work plan for discipline inspection and supervision for the first half of 2026 and adopted further measures to ensure the effective implementation of relevant tasks. It called for strengthening political supervision, deepening political oversight, strictly enforcing discipline during leadership transitions, steadfastly improving conduct, ensuring discipline and combating corruption, and continuing targeted efforts to address violations and corruption at the grassroots level, so as to ensure the high-quality completion of all tasks for the year. The session elected Zhao Shiyong as Deputy Secretary of the CCDI, and Zhang Zhong as Deputy Secretary of the CCDI and a member of its Standing Committee.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection is the highest party oversight body in the CPC, responsible for supervising compliance with party discipline, combating corruption and ensuring the purity of the ranks. Plenary sessions of the CCDI are held regularly to review work and set priorities for the coming period. The sixth plenary session of the 20th CCDI took place against the backdrop of preparations for key personnel changes and the implementation of strategic tasks for the country's new development stage. Special attention was paid to strengthening political oversight and reinforcing discipline at the local level, in line with the party's overall line on high-quality development and improved governance efficiency.
As CCTV+ reports, the sixth plenary session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC reaffirmed the party's determination to continue its uncompromising fight against corruption and disciplinary violations. The appointments of new deputy secretaries reflect systematic personnel work and the continuity of policy. In the face of new challenges and tasks, party oversight remains a reliable shield, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of work at all levels of power.
