Firefighters rescued dozens of residents trapped in flooded villages in Liaoning Province

When water rises, washing away roads and flooding homes, what comes to the fore is not only the power of the elements but also people's ability to act quickly and in a coordinated manner. In Liaoning Province, torrential rains hit the region, leaving dozens of residents without communication and escape routes. But even in the most difficult conditions, rescuers kept searching, pushing through and leading people to safety.
On Monday afternoon, firefighters received an emergency call that two men were trapped by rising water in Liqianhu Village, Tieling County. Rescuers waded through waist‑deep water to reach them and escorted them to an inflatable boat. When the boat reached shallow water, one of the firefighters jumped into the water to help push it forward. After a two‑hour rescue operation, the men were safely evacuated. Elsewhere, heavy rains caused severe flooding and road collapses in Huiyuan Village, Fushun City, leaving dozens of residents trapped. Despite ongoing rain, firefighters continued searching the affected villages. They set up ropes to create a safe evacuation route through deep floodwaters, provided trapped children with rain protection and warm clothing, and used inflatable boats to evacuate elderly residents with limited mobility. After several hours of rescue work, all 56 trapped villagers were safely evacuated.
By Tuesday morning, about 365,000 people had been evacuated across the province, as torrential rains brought by Typhoon Bavi hit the region, pushing water levels in several rivers above critical levels and prompting emergency measures. Heavy rain lashed central and northern Liaoning from Sunday evening to Tuesday morning, with extremely heavy precipitation in parts of Shenyang, Anshan, Fushun, Liaoyang and Tieling. Shenyang, Fushun and Tieling were among the hardest‑hit cities, with Shenyang and Fushun raising their emergency response levels to the highest, and more than 6,000 essential supplies sent to Tieling.
Typhoon Bavi was the ninth tropical cyclone of the season and brought record rainfall to northeastern China. Local authorities mobilised thousands of rescuers and military engineers to deal with the flooding. Despite the scale of the disaster, the coordinated work of emergency services made it possible to minimise casualties and swiftly evacuate the population from the most dangerous areas. As CCTV+ reports. Rescue operations continue, and meteorologists warn of possible further rainfall in the coming days.
