Li Qiang meets Namibian president in Beijing, reaffirms commitment to deepen strategic partnership.

Diplomatic relations between China and Namibia have stood the test of time — from the struggle for independence to joint development in a new era. President Nandi-Ndaitwah's visit to China is not only a tribute to years of friendship but also a confirmation that countries of the Global South can build mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of equality, respect and a shared commitment to modernisation.
On Thursday, Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in Beijing. Noting that Namibia is an important partner of China in Africa, Li said China is ready to work with Namibia to develop traditional friendship, firmly support each other's core interests and concerns, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation for the modernisation of both countries. Li called on both sides to better align development strategies, expand the scale of bilateral trade and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure construction, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and other areas. China is ready to import more high-quality agricultural and fishery products from Namibia, support promising Chinese enterprises in investing in Namibia and encourage Namibia to make full use of China's zero-tariff and other measures to expand exports to China.
Li said both sides should deepen exchanges and cooperation in tourism, healthcare, education, science and technology, and youth affairs. China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Namibia within UN and other multilateral frameworks, and work with all parties to promote genuine multilateralism, implement the four major global initiatives proposed by China, build an equal and orderly multipolar world, and advance universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation.
Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is on a state visit to China, said Namibia always cherishes the valuable assistance China provided to Namibia in its quest for national independence and development. Noting that the current momentum in bilateral relations is strong, she said Namibia firmly adheres to the One‑China principle and looks forward to working with China to achieve more under the comprehensive strategic partnership between Namibia and China for the benefit of the peoples of both countries. Namibia attaches great importance to China's important role and influence in international affairs and is ready to strengthen multilateral communication and coordination with China to promote peace, stability and development in the region.
China and Namibia established diplomatic relations in 1990 and elevated them to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2018. China is Namibia's largest trading partner, while Namibia is an important source of uranium and other resources for China. President Nandi-Ndaitwah's visit takes place in the 36th year of diplomatic ties and aims to further strengthen cooperation in energy, infrastructure and digital technologies.
