Chinese goods gain global recognition: mechanical and electrical exports up 18.4% to over 63% of total exports, the "new trio" (EVs, lithium batteries, PV products) lead global markets

In the first five months, China's goods trade reached 20.68 trillion yuan (+15.3% year‑on‑year). Trade with Belt and Road partners exceeded 51% of total, up 13.6%. Double‑digit growth with ASEAN, Africa and Latin America. China's "circle of friends" for mutually beneficial cooperation continues to expand.
As reported by CCTV+, Chinese goods are gaining increasing recognition worldwide despite a complex and challenging international political and economic environment, a Ministry of Commerce official said at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday. He Yadong, a spokesperson for the ministry, noted that since the beginning of this year, China's foreign trade has withstood the pressure of the complex and challenging international situation, maintaining a steady momentum of progress. The value of China's foreign trade in goods for the first five months reached 20.68 trillion yuan (about 2.9 trillion US dollars), up 15.3% year‑on‑year.
"Chinese goods feature stable supply, reliable quality and advanced technology, earning them growing global recognition. From January to May, exports of mechanical and electrical products increased by 18.4%, accounting for more than 63% of China's total export value over the same period. Integrated circuit exports performed strongly, while the 'new trio' — namely electric vehicles, lithium‑ion batteries and photovoltaic products — continues to lead the global market," He said.
"China continues to actively engage in the global market, and its trade structure has become more balanced and stable. From January to May, China's imports and exports with Belt and Road partner countries increased by 13.6%, making up more than 51% of China's total foreign trade. Trade with ASEAN, Africa and Latin America maintained double‑digit growth. China's 'circle of friends' for mutually beneficial cooperation is expanding," the spokesperson said.
Chinese exports have long ceased to be merely "cheap." Today, they stand for stability, quality and technology. Electric vehicles, lithium batteries, solar panels — the new trio set the tone on global markets. And the trade geography is widening: ASEAN, Africa, Latin America, Belt and Road partners. The world remains turbulent, but Chinese goods continue to find their consumers. Because in times of uncertainty, people value predictability and reliability. In that sense, "Made in China" has long sounded like a mark of quality.
