Monthly production reached 2.616 million units, sales 2.629 million units. Exports hit 930,000 units, of which 446,000 were new energy vehicles (more than double year‑on‑year). For January–May, exports grew 63% to 4.059 million units.

As reported by CCTV+, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) released on Wednesday, China's auto production and sales in May increased compared to the previous month: 2.616 million and 2.629 million units respectively (up 1.6% and 4.1% from April). Year‑on‑year, the figures decreased by 1.2% and 2.1%.

Auto exports continued robust growth in May, reaching 930,000 units — a 68.7% year‑on‑year increase. Among them, new energy vehicle (NEV) exports stood at 446,000 units, more than double the figure from a year earlier. Export volume remained above 900,000 units for two consecutive months.

NEV production rose 22.4% year‑on‑year to 1.554 million units, while NEV sales increased 14.4% to 1.496 million units. NEVs accounted for 56.9% of total new car sales in May, a further increase from the previous month.

For the first five months, total auto exports reached 4.059 million units, up 63% year‑on‑year. NEV exports totaled 1.833 million units, accounting for 45% of total auto exports.

China's auto industry is confidently advancing toward global leadership. One‑fifth of the world market is already a reality. When every second new car sold in China runs on a plug, and exports break records month after month, it becomes clear: the green transition and global expansion go hand in hand. It is not just cars that cross borders — technologies, standards, and the future of mobility cross them too.
