China's postal and express delivery industry handled 33.14 billion delivery items in the first two months of this year, an increase of 5.6 percent year on year, according to data from the State Post Bureau on Friday.
In the January to February period, China's express delivery sector handled 30.49 billion parcels, representing a 7.1 percent year-on-year increase, the data showed.
In particular, there were obvious rises in the postal delivery volumes of fresh products like beef, mutton, seafood and fruits as well as electronic products in the first two months, driven by factors such as the growth in holiday consumption and purchases of Chinese New Year holiday goods.
In the first two months, express delivery enterprises also accelerated the improvement of infrastructure.
One example is the finalization of a smart logistics park in Tianshui City of northwest China's Gansu Province, which has started trial operation and is scheduled to enter official operation in May, so as to effectively reduce logistics costs and significantly improve service efficiency.
"China's postal industry is speeding up the comprehensive upgrade of service quality and efficiency, focusing on weaving a delivery network throughout the country and continuously enhancing the convenience of public services. Overall, the industry is maintaining a stable and positive development trend, injecting stronger impetus regarding stimulating consumption potential and economic flows," said Liu Jiang, director of the Strategic Planning Research Department under the Development and Research Center of the State Post Bureau.
