Foreign trade in south China's Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), the world's largest free trade port (FTP) by area, has experienced a remarkable growth rate of 20 percent in nearly three months since the launch of the island-wide special customs operations on December 18, 2025.
According to Haikou Customs on Tuesday, from December 18, 2025 to the end of February, the total import and export value of goods traded by Hainan enterprises reached 65.49 billion yuan (about 9.51 billion U.S. dollars), up 29.1 percent year on year. Among this, exports amounted to 26.84 billion yuan (about 3.9 billion U.S. dollars), up by 55.4 percent, and imports totaled 38.65 billion yuan (5.61 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 15.5 percent.
The number of enterprises engaged in import and export within the province has risen to 2,108, an increase of 48.5 percent.
Hainan maintains trade relations with over 220 countries and regions across the world, with imports and exports showing growth in more than 180 of these markets.
Notably, the import and export volume with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 40.19 billion yuan (5.84 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 34.7 percent, accounting for 61.4 percent of the province's total import and export value.
On December 18, 2025, China initiated island-wide special customs operations in the Hainan FTP, facilitating the freer entry of overseas goods, expands zero-tariff coverage, and introduces more business-friendly measures.
