The 2nd Zhongguancun Embodied Intelligence Robot Application Competition held its final rounds in Beijing on Monday and Tuesday, promoting the application of embodied intelligence technologies in real-world scenarios.
Ninety-nine top teams from China and abroad gathered in Zhongguancun hi-tech zone in Beijing, competing in 19 core tasks over the course of the two-day event.
This year's competition was divided into "Autonomous Completion" and "Tele-operation Completion" categories, with a focus on tasks that demonstrate how embodied intelligence may empower various industries and be helpful in daily life.
On site, humanoid robots sat at piano keyboards and skillfully played melodic tunes. Beyond mere entertainment, these machine musicians demonstrated significant advancements in robotic technology, including hand dexterity, movement speed, and positioning accuracy.
Elsewhere on the competition grounds, robots could be seen completing familiar homekeeping chores.
"This demonstration features a robot folding clothes. It is capable of handling various household tasks, such as heating meals, cleaning rooms and other spaces, serving plates, and making coffee. Through this competition, I've had valuable opportunities to exchange ideas and learn from peers, which has revealed many possibilities for our future development," said Cai Wanru, a competitor.
The event also underscored the broader collaborative efforts driving innovation in the field, said Jiang Dakuan, director of the Industrial Promotion Department under Zhongguancun Science City Administrative Committee.
"Nearly 100 teams reached the finals, 60 percent from universities. Leading firms and individual developers also competed, showcasing strong industry-academia-research collaboration in embodied intelligence. The competition focused on practical applications in household, commercial, industrial and safety scenarios, aiming to move robots from labs to real-world use," said the director.
The full five-month competition kicked off on June 14 in Beijing and has since stimulated technological innovation and strengthened the Chinese capital's leading position in the embodied intelligence field.
