China's automotive production and sales both exceeded 3.3 million units in October, setting new monthly records for the same period, according to the latest data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on Tuesday.
The latest data showed that China produced and sold 27.692 million and 27.687 million units, respectively, in the first ten months of this year, representing year-on-year increases of 13.2 percent and 12.4 percent, respectively.
In October alone, China's automotive production reached 3.359 million units while sales hit 3.322 million units, up 12.1 percent and 8.8 percent year on year, respectively.
The data also showed that China exported 5.616 million vehicles in the January to October period, a 15.7 percent year-on-year increase, including 2.014 million new energy vehicles (NEV), which surged 90.4 percent year on year. China’s auto exports have surpassed 600,000 units for three consecutive months.
Notably, multiple automakers reported record NEV deliveries in October. NEV production and sales reached 1.772 million and 1.715 million units respectively, increasing 21.1 percent and 20 percent year on year, respectively.
According to Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the CAAM, automakers seized the opportunities in October before year-end policy changes, with companies continuing intensive new model launches and maintaining rapid production pace. Meanwhile, some consumers made advance purchases, driving a new consumption peak. The market is expected to maintain strong momentum through the final two months of the year.
