The Zhuhai land port on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has handled more than 100 million inbound and outbound passenger trips since the bridge opened in October 2018.
The 55-kilometer bridge, linking Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai, is the world’s longest bridge-and-tunnel sea crossing, cutting travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai or Macao from three hours to about 45 minutes.
According to border inspection authorities, passenger traffic reached a record 31.34 million trips in 2025, more than 140 percent higher than in 2019. The bridge also handled 569,000 trips by foreign nationals in 2025, up 28.7 percent year on year.
Officials attributed the growth to upgraded border services, including the use of artificial intelligence, big data systems, smart clearance channels and online entry-card processing, which have significantly improved efficiency.
The bridge’s operation is accelerating the formation of a one-hour living circle in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and supporting deeper regional economic integration.
