The 2026 “Shopping in China” and New Year Consumption Season campaign will spotlight goods and services spending as well as emerging consumption scenarios, as the country intensifies efforts to stimulate consumer demand.
The Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal Government cost-hosted the launch ceremony of the campaign, during which officials from the Chinese metropolises of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Shenzhen introduced plans and arrangements for the campaign.
Shanghai, the Chinese financial hub and a major tourist city, will expand the supply of high-quality goods and services and organize year-round consumption-related activities including those themed around the upcoming Spring Festival, which falls on Feb 17, 2026.
The China Media Group, the state broadcaster, unveiled promotional plans for the 2026 "Shopping in China" campaign.
The campaign will feature a series of nationwide events, including Premium Consumption Month and an International Consumption Season, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The ministry will also support all provincial-level regions in their respective consumption promotion efforts and organize city-specific programs in the 15 cities selected to pilot the Chinese government initiative of building international consumption hubs across the country.
As a highlight of the "Shopping in China" campaign, the Ministry of Commerce will also work with relevant authorities to hold special consumption-related activities during the Spring Festival holiday season, roll out favorable measures to promote household spending, and create new consumption hotspots and scenarios during the holiday season.
Unveiled in April 2025, the "Shopping in China" campaign aims to showcase the country's favorable consumption environment, hospitality landscape and the appeal of the world's second largest economy -- spanning premium shopping, dining, tourism and cultural experiences -- to a global audience.
