Chinese President Xi Jinping proclaimed a China-Central Asia Spirit at the second China-Central Asia Summit in Kazakhstan in June 2025, which resonates profoundly with the shared aspirations of the peoples represented at the summit for common development in this new era.
The second China-Central Asia Summit was held from June 16 to 18 in Astana, capital city of Kazakhstan.
Xi landed in the Kazakh capital on June 16 to attend the summit at the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The two leaders held talks on the same day, exchanging views on bilateral ties and global issues.
"Your Excellency President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, my old friend. I'm willing to work together with you to steadfastly consolidate the friendship between the two countries, and join forces to advance comprehensive cooperation. China stands ready to work with Kazakhstan to contribute more to regional and world peace and development with stability and positive energy of bilateral ties," Xi said during the talks.
"Your Excellency, Mr. President, in Kazakhstan, you are known as a great statesman and a wise leader. China is a friendly neighbor, close friend and reliable partner of Kazakhstan," said Tokayev.
At the second China-Central Asia Summit, President Xi announced the "China-Central Asia Spirit" of "mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual benefit and mutual assistance for the joint pursuit of modernization through high-quality development." Guided by the spirit, Xi and leaders of the five Central Asian countries signed the treaty of permanent good-neighborliness and friendly cooperation, legally enshrining the principle of friendship for years to come.
"We should act on the China-Central Asia Spirit, enhance cooperation with renewed vigor and more practical measures, promote high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and forge ahead toward our goal of a community with a shared future for the region," Xi said at the summit.
