Crude oil, natural gas production reach new highs in 2025
With an output of 215 million tons and more than 260 billion cubic meters for gas, China's crude oil and natural gas production have reached new highs in 2025, a national energy work conference said on Monday.
Wang Hongzhi, head of the National Energy Administration, said at the conference that China's energy security was guaranteed and effective in 2025, achieving best supply performance during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025). It effectively responded to the challenge of power loads in the summer peak season, which recorded 20 more peak load occassions than in 2024.
Wang said that the level of complementary and mutual support among energy resources continues to improve, while the safety situation of the power system remains stable.
In terms of complementary energy resources, China is committed to optimizing the national power flow layout and strengthening the construction of cross-provincial and cross-regional transmission channels, he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, Wang said that China will enhance energy security by solidifying the foundation for coal supply guarantees, improving power supply reliability, strengthening oil and gas production and supply capacities, optimizing the layout of energy backbone channels, and enhancing the safety of energy infrastructure.
