Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized the importance of improving long-term mechanisms for governing cyberspace. At a group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Friday, he called for continuous efforts to create a clean, healthy, and reliable online environment.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the Party has placed top priority on managing the online space, strengthening core values and online culture, and effectively combating harmful content. Xi noted that the overall online environment has already shown positive changes.
Special attention was given to the role of cyberspace management in national governance. Xi stressed the need to strengthen the comprehensive structure of control and coordination under the Party’s centralized leadership. He called on online platforms, independent media, and multi-channel internet structures to shoulder social responsibility and spread positive energy.
Xi stated that the internet should become a stronghold for theoretical guidance, moral education, and cultural heritage preservation. He called for decisive measures against harmful content, dismantling interest chains and production networks behind it, and eliminating the conditions that allow such content to emerge.
Xi also emphasized that emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and big data, pose challenges to cyberspace governance but also open new opportunities. He noted the importance of promoting the development of these technologies.
Highlighting that cyberspace governance is a common challenge for all countries, the Chinese President called for international cooperation in combating illegal online activities and contributing to the building of a community with a shared future in cyberspace.
