China establishes over 5,100 green mines at provincial or higher levels
China has established over 5,100 green mines at provincial or higher levels, achieving significant results in the conservation and intensive use of mineral resources, ecological restoration, energy saving and emission reduction, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources.
In the first 10 months of this year, China established over 300 green mines of provincial or higher levels, the ministry said.
So far, there are 1,054 national-level green mines and 4,055 provincial-level green mines nationwide, accounting for 40.8 percent of certified operating mines, it said.
"In the process of promoting green mine construction, China has established a large number of energy resource bases and national planning mining areas, promoting more intensive and large-scale resource development. The number of large and medium-sized mines across the country accounts for over 50 percent, and their production capacity exceeds 80 percent. Additionally, there have been innovations in processing technology and equipment, leading to an all-round improvement in comprehensive resource utilization," said Huang Xuexiong, director of the ministry's Mineral Resources Protection and Supervision Department.
