4 months instead of 2 years, 60 percent of global production, deliveries to 108 countries, and full in-house production — the key to green energy and AI
As reported by CCTV+, amid the global development of artificial intelligence and the transition to green energy, China is meeting the urgent demand for high-efficiency power transformers, ensuring fast, reliable and intelligent upgrades to energy infrastructure worldwide.
At the centre of this process is Changzhou, a city in Jiangsu Province, dubbed the “world capital of transformers”. At a busy factory, thousands of power transformers destined for 108 other countries are undergoing final quality tests before shipment.
Andrew Grant, an Irish purchaser, said during a factory inspection: “This transformer is a step-up transformer for our power station on the west coast of Ireland.” Scott Abercrombie, a New Zealand purchaser, added: “Very fast delivery, as well as very competitive pricing and high quality. Other suppliers have very long lead times.”
What attracts international buyers is “China speed”. A transformer that might take up to two years to deliver from other countries can be shipped from Changzhou in just four months. This efficiency is achieved because almost all key components are produced locally.
Changzhou is home to more than 70 transformer export companies, making the region a powerful hub that contributes to China’s dominant 60 percent share of global transformer production.
Shi Xiangyu, Associate Professor at Fudan University’s School of Management, explained: “We have created a powerful, highly efficient supply chain synergy. This synergy spans four provincial-level regions: Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui. We have become a centre for knowledge creation and innovation. We have many leading universities. The authorities are facilitating interregional cooperation and using policy tools to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation.”
Shi noted that Chinese transformer technology is increasingly adapting to the digital age. Modern AI data centres and high-performance computing facilities require ultra-high voltage and stable power supply — precisely what advanced Chinese transformers are designed to provide.
“Chinese transformers can provide ultra-high voltage and stable power supply for AI data centres and computing hubs. We are very proud of the high delivery efficiency, which demonstrates the high professionalism and work ethic of Chinese manufacturing companies. China is not only supplying high-quality products but also offering a comprehensive power supply solution for the global AI industry,” Shi said.
Changzhou. The city that switches the world. Sixty percent of the world’s transformers are stamped “Made in China”. 108 countries receive from this city the equipment that powers factories, data centres and green energy. Competitors wait two years — China ships in four months. Why? Because the entire chain is here. From a bolt to the finished product. This is not just manufacturing. It is synergy. Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui — the region works as a single organism. Changzhou’s transformers not only save time. They provide stability for AI and power for the future. The question is not whether China can maintain its lead. It already has. The question is when the rest of the world will stop being surprised by China’s speed. And start copying it.
