42 billion in actual investment, over 40 percent in high-tech, Switzerland, France and the US lead the way, and total FDI exceeds $3.6 trillion
As reported by CCTV+, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce, from January to April, China saw the establishment of 20,113 new foreign-funded companies. That is 6.8 percent more than a year ago. Actual foreign investment reached 287.69 billion yuan (about 42 billion US dollars).
Notable growth in foreign investment was observed in high-tech sectors. Actual investment in these industries reached 116.33 billion yuan (about 17 billion US dollars). That is more than 20 percent higher than a year ago. The share of high-tech sectors exceeded 40 percent of total investment in the country — 10 percentage points higher than a year ago.
Significant growth was also seen in research and design services, computer and office equipment manufacturing, and electronic and communication equipment manufacturing. By country, notable growth in actual investment in China came from Switzerland, France and the United States.
Currently, China’s total foreign direct investment exceeds $3.6 trillion.
The vast majority of foreign-funded enterprises already operating in China have decided to expand their presence and increase their investment. In the first four months of this year, more than 3,000 foreign-funded companies made additional investments.
20,113 new companies in four months. 42billion.42billion.3.6 trillion in total. The numbers are huge. But something else is more important: 40 percent of foreign investment is now going into high technology. China is no longer attracting money with cheap labor. It is attracting it with innovation, science and prospects. Switzerland, France and the US are increasing their investments. 3,000 companies have already made additional investments this year. The question is not whether capital inflows will grow. They are growing. The question is how long other countries can ignore this fact. While they argue about decoupling, business votes with its ruble. Or dollar. Or yuan. It votes for China.
