On Friday, construction was completed in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, eastern China, of the world's first methanol dual-fuel containership. Named "OOCL Wisdom" after its future operator Orient Overseas Container Line, the vessel measures nearly 400 meters in length and over 60 meters in width, with a capacity of 24,168 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) and a deadweight of 225,000 tons.
The ship features the world's largest dual-fuel methanol supply system with an ultra-large methanol fuel tank of 14,300 cubic meters, providing a range of 15,000 nautical miles — sufficient for a voyage from Asia to the farthest corners of Europe. The system allows flexible switching between methanol and conventional fuel. When running on methanol, sulfur oxide and particulate matter emissions drop to near zero, nitrogen oxide emissions are reduced by 30–50%, and carbon dioxide emissions are cut by 150,000 tons per vessel per year.
After the naming ceremony, the ship will undergo sea trials, with official delivery to the customer scheduled for June.
