Turkmen cyclists are getting actively prepared for the Track Cycling World Championships, which is set to be held on October 2021. As it is known, the Ashgabat Olympic Village will be the venue for the major competition, where on the eve of the 2017 Asian Games an indoor velodrome that comply with international standards was built.
Turkmenistan will become the first country in Central Asia to host the largest-profile sporting event on its territory. Very soon the Cycling Federation of the country will present the emblem of the upcoming championships; as of date, the comprehensive work is underway.
Dovlet Annayev, Chairman of the Cycling Federation of Turkmenistan, has shared on training of athletes and cooperation with the International Cycling Union (UCI).
– In October 2020, the Track Cycling Championships of Turkmenistan, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality, completed.
Cyclists show decent results, despite the fact that track cycling is a fairly young sport for our country. The coach of the national team Nargeldy Ikdirov has a long coaching experience, he collaborated with foreign colleagues during the Asian Games, having learnt their professional experience and the athletes training system for international competitions.
The preliminary list of athletes who will represent Turkmenistan at the 2021 World Cup (UCI) is already known. However, cyclists still have some difficult qualifying tournaments and challenges ahead. Before riding the track bike wheel, every athlete has to take a special test on a bicycle ergometer (Wattbike). This professional exercise bike is as accurate as possible about the health, physical abilities and readiness of the athlete.
According to preliminary data, it is expected that representatives of more than 40 countries will compete to win 20 sets of gold, silver and bronze medals. In addition, representatives of the Cycling Federation of Turkmenistan hope that new world records will be set at the World Championships in Ashgabat.
The competition events include 10 main disciplines: individual sprint, team sprint, combined events with maximum number of cyclists, madison, scratch race, elimination race, etc. Therefore, the daily trainings of Turkmen athletes are held both in indoor velodrome and on the highway.
The training load of cyclists comprised of balanced physical exercises training plan that allows young athletes to develop and improve their skills. In addition, the Cycling Federation of Turkmenistan is preparing for the Junior Track Cycling World Championships scheduled for April this year in Cairo; the national team can also take part in the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games.
