Trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation in 2020 developed dynamically, despite the pandemic. Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin stated this at a briefing at the end of the year.
“Despite the pandemic, Russian-Turkmen trade and economic relations developed dynamically. In particular, the trade turnover between the Russian Federation increased by more than 20 percent, and by the end of the year it will amount to about $ 1 billion,” the Russian ambassador said.
He noted that Russia has increased the supply of industrial and chemical products, foodstuffs, metal products, machinery, equipment, timber, etc. to Turkmenistan. In turn, Turkmenistan has also increased exports to the Russian Federation, in particular, chemical products, food products, agricultural raw materials, etc.
The diplomat emphasized that if almost all of these indicators are declining, then Turkmenistan and Russia were able to achieve good growth.
According to the ambassador, a number of joint projects are already being implemented, several agreements and memorandums of cooperation in energy and shipbuilding have been signed.
Blokhin also stressed that Russia is completing the implementation of a project to supply Ansat and Mi-17 helicopters to Turkmenistan.
“This year there were few face-to-face contacts, but this was offset by a large number of online contacts. According to our estimates, there were about 50 negotiations via video communication,” said Alexander Blokhin.
