The working visit of the delegation of the CIS Executive Committee to Turkmenistan ended today, on August 21. The purpose of it was to study the issues related to the preparation of the meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States, scheduled for September 13 in Ashgabat.
On the final day of the visit, a representative delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Ivanov met with Minister of Finance and Economics of Turkmenistan Batyr Bazarov.
The day before, members of the delegation of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth held talks in the government of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which issues of interaction between the CIS countries in the political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other fields were discussed. Turkmenistan’s great and fruitful work on the implementation of activities as the Chairman of the CIS in 2019 was especially noted, which, as noted by the delegation members, “favorably affects economic and social development throughout the region.”
As a result of the meeting at the Ministry of Finance and Economics, an agreement was reached on the preliminary program for a meeting of the CIS Economic Council, which, in particular, provides for a conversation of heads of delegations in a narrow format, a meeting of the CIS Economic Council in an expanded format, a press conference, a cultural program, etc.
During the working visit, the delegation of the CIS Executive Committee visited the Ashgabat International Airport and the fashionable Yildiz Hotel, where the holding of the meeting of the CIS Economic Council is planned.
Despite the status of an associate member of the CIS, Turkmenistan takes an active part in events held within the framework of the Commonwealth, but taking into account the positive neutrality, which is the basis of the state’s foreign policy.
“This is something new and important that Turkmenistan brings to the relations of the CIS countries, urging us to work more actively with international organizations,” said Sergey Ivanov, Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee.
He also noted the great importance of the I Caspian Economic Forum:
– We were looking forward to it, because it marks a new page in joint work in the Caspian on such important issues as energy, transport, ecology, the human dimension. We will look forward to how further this Turkmen initiative for economic cooperation in the Caspian Sea will be supported by our CIS countries.
As Sergey Ivanov emphasized, Turkmenistan proposed to approve the Declaration of Economic Cooperation of the CIS Countries:
– During the working visit, we also considered it. In general, it is ready and we hope that this Declaration will be signed during the meeting of the heads of state.
