“UN Model”: Turkmen students act as UN General Assembly speakers

The regular session “UN Model” took place at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to imitate the agenda of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

The UN Model is an educational simulation that gives a chance to students to be a part of the global political event, and to imitate the work of this main international structure acquainting young people with rules of procedure and the basic principles of various UN bodies.

Thus, they can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. The UN Model involves and teaches participants speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

The students acted in the role of the UN Secretary-General, the Chairman of the 73rd session of the General Assembly, and assigned countries to represent, as well as issued reports and appeals. The participants discussed the global issues on the agenda of the 73rd session of the GA and debated positions, staying true to the actual position of the member they represent. Based on statements made by students at the UN Model, the draft Resolution to be adopted at the end of the session.

The UN Model will be held at the Institute of International Relations for three days.
