An Interdepartmental Working Group of Turkmenistan on the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) held its first meeting.
The online meeting was attended by the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia, Zeynal Hajiyev, representatives of ministries and departments, as well as public organizations of Turkmenistan.
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration is an important milestone in the history of global dialogue and international cooperation on migration issues. Being developed from the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa action agenda, it is intended to manage migration flows for the benefit of migrants themselves and states.
Having told of the procedures for implementing the agreement and voluntary reporting, which will be organized at the global and regional levels, the head of the IOM representative office in Turkmenistan announced plans to initiate the UN Migration Network in Turkmenistan, provided by the UN General Assembly Resolution. Its task is to assist Member States in implementing the GCM through the well-coordinated work of various organizations.
The coordinator of the working group – the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan spoke about the preparation of a national review on the implementation of the GCM in the country.
