The South Center for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair (SCSSR – part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, USC) received an order for the building of a series of dry cargo ships. This was reported by RIA Volga quoting Vladimir Golovkov, the head of the International and Foreign Economic Relations Agency of the Astrakhan Region.

“At the meetings held by the Astrakhan Region Governor, an agreement was reached on placing an order at our enterprises for the building of a series of ships for Turkmenistan, namely two dry cargo vessels. These will be built by our South Center for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair, Vladimir Golovkov said at a session of the regional government.

He noted that shipbuilding is one of the main areas of cooperation between the Astrakhan Region and Turkmenistan. According to him, at due time it brought orders for Astrakhan enterprises to the amount of $750 million.

“We are further negotiating about orders for the building of special-purpose vessels, as well as car ferries”, the agency head specified.

Earlier, Astrakhan shipbuilders built for Turkmenistan a number of vessels for various purposes, including oil tankers for transporting Caspian petroleum.
