The new National Strategy of Turkmenistan on Climate Change has been drafted in Turkmenistan. This was discussed at a Cabinet session held by means of videoconferencing on Friday, September 20.
The National Strategy on Climate Change, adopted seven years ago, in June 2012, was implemented in a full format. The revised National Strategy of Turkmenistan on Climate Change reflects the provisions contained in the main international instruments in this area that have become effective in recent years. These include, inter alia, the UN Global Development Agenda until 2030, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, etc.
The development of Turkmenistan’s new climate strategy is also relevant with regard to the forthcoming Climate Summit to be held under the UN auspices of in New York on September 23.
The draft strategy was approved by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
