Turkmen-Uzbek political consultations were held online on Monday, September 21. The Turkmen side was represented by the heads of the Foreign Ministry, the Ministries of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, Energy, the “Turkmengaz” State Concern, the State Committee for Water Management, as well as Rail and Road Transport Agencies.
Uzbekistan was inversely represented – by the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Water Management, Investment and Foreign Trade, Energy, Transport and Uztransgaz JSC.
The heads of the delegations – the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Rashid Meredov and Abdulaziz Kamilov noted that despite the objective difficulties, caused by the known reasons at the global level, bilateral relations remain at a sufficiently high level.
Within the framework of the regular round of political consultations, they analyzed current state and outlined prospects for moving to a new level of trade and economic relations, cooperation in the fuel and energy, transport and communication spheres.
It was stated that both Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are interested in the rapid implementation of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor, which will additionally connect the countries of the Central Asian region with the States of the Middle East.
The Foreign Ministers of the two countries agreed on the need to establish a peaceful life in Afghanistan, which is tightly connected with international and regional security. Issues related to the development of near-border cooperation were discussed in the same aspect.
The issues of water management and water use were openly considered in the context of increasing freshwater scarcity, associated with global climate change.
Mutual understanding was also reached on the importance of further developing cultural and humanitarian dialogue between the fraternal peoples who share ethnic roots, history, culture and spiritual values, as well as strengthening ties in the scientific and educational sphere.
