The Balkan Region of Turkmenistan and the Mangistau Region of Kazakhstan may be linked by a special border trade zone in the future. Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan Erkebulan Sapiev writes about this in his article published in the Turkmen press.
Cooperation between the regions is actively developing, expanding the potential for economic growth of both states. In January-October 2020, the trade between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan reached 109.7 million US dollars. Although this indicator has decreased compared to the previous year due to quarantine measures and the global situation with coronavirus, by the end of 2020, the çountries are expecting positive growth, the ambassador writes.
The head of the diplomatic mission highlighted the prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in the transit, transport and agricultural sectors. He pointed out the high potential of operating the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway and development of the seaports of Turkmenbashi and Aktau for mutually beneficial transit traffic.
Sapiev also noted that there are huge opportunities in Turkmenistan for the production of vegetable and cucurbits crops and livestock products. In his opinion, Turkmen agrarians can build strong bridges of mutually beneficial cooperation with the western regions of Kazakhstan in this area.
