Turkmen students visit Tsarskoe Selo

The Society of Turkmen Culture in St. Petersburg “Mekan” has organized a series of excursions around the city on the Neva River and the surrounding suburbs for students from Turkmenistan. According the established tradition of acquaintance with historical architectural monuments located in the northern capital of Russia, this time students and graduates of three St. Petersburg universities went to visit Tsarskoe Selo.

The Museum Preserve in the city of Pushkin is a legendary and historical place, which includes palace and associated park ensembles of the 18th-19th centuries. Impressed by the beauty of the Catherine Palace, the students from Turkmenistan walked along the paths of the Alexander Park, visited the Ratnaya Palata, the Arsenal Pavilion, and, of course, the Imperial Lyceum at Tsarskoye Selo where Alexander Pushkin studied.

…The forests where I loved, where feelings developed,
Where infancy merged with the first flush of youth.
And where, nourished by nature and dreams,
I discovered poetry, joy and tranquility…

Alexander Pushkin, whose youth was spent at Tsarskoe Selo in the Imperial Lyceum, wrote these lines. He was widely recognized by the literary establishment by the time of his graduation from the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum. Today, young Turkmen students, who are at the same age as Pushkin was when he was the Lyceum student, have the opportunity to be inspired by the landscapes that the great poet cherished colorfully in his poems.

Being accompanied by a professional guide, Turkmen students learned a lot about the history and famous citizens of the city of Pushkin. Over the years, these places were visited by Anna Akhmatova, Nikolai Gumilev, Maksim Gorky, Nikolai Gogol and many others.

During August, the Society of Turkmen Culture “Mekan” is planning to organize excursions to the city of military glory Kronstadt, to Petrodvorets that famous for its fountains, and in addition, foreign students will be offered an exciting city tour along the Neva, which is especially beautiful in the last month of summer.

The cultural event was organized with the support of the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Implementation of Migration Policy in St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg House of Nationalities. Trips are carried out in compliance with all requirements of Rospotrebnadzor.

The Society of Turkmen Culture in St. Petersburg “Mekan” was created in 2003 and is a department of the Humanitarian Association of World Turkmens in St. Petersburg and Northwwest Russia.

Among other main tasks, the organization is aimed at preserving the culture and traditions of the Turkmen people, providing of comprehensive assistance to compatriots living in the city on the Neva and students from Turkmenistan. Currently, more than two thousand Turkmen students study at universities in St. Petersburg.
