Turkmen national team goes to Jakarta for summer Asian Games


65 athletes from Turkmenistan will represent the country at the summer Asian Games in 2018 in Jakarta. They will compete for the title of champions in such disciplines as jiu-jitsu, boxing, Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, kurash, judo, sambo, heavy and light athletics, water swimming, basketball.

The team’s departure ceremony took place at the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan, with the participation of eminent athletes and coaches.

The Minister of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan Dayantsch Gulgeldiev addressed the athletes with a salutatory speech. Noting the rich history of achievements of Turkmen athletes in major international competitions, the minister wished the members of the team success and new victories.

Farewell to the athletes of the national team was also expressed by the teachers of the Institute of Sport and Tourism – once the alma mater of many of those who will leave in the coming days to Jakarta.

Many members of the national team of Turkmenistan already have world-class sports achievements. Among the participants we can mention Khursand Imankuliyev – the gold medalist of the XXXV international boxing tournament named after Felix Stamm, Tejen Tejenov – the gold medalist of the Asian Open Tournament in judo in 2018, Ruslan Esgarov – the silver medalist of the 5th Asian Sambo Games in the weight category up to 100 kg.
