The USA and Iran have exchanged prisoners in Zurich

On Saturday the USA and Iran exchanged prisoners. Washington gave out Iranian scientist- haematologist Massoud Soleimani arrested in October 2018, Teheran in response to it handed to the American authorities researcher Xiyue Wang convicted for espionage. Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif informed on it on his Twitter page. It is informed that the exchange of prisoners took place in Zurich.

The Iranian scientist-haematologist Massoud Soleimani, a stem cell expert was detained at the airport of Chicago in October, 2018. He was accused of attempt of export of biological material to Iran bypassing sanctions of the USA.

The American researcher Xiyue Wang was arrested by the Iranian security force on August 8, 2016. He was convicted for attempt of espionage and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.

According to the Euro news, US president Donald Tramp thanked Iran for release of Xiyue Wang and stated that it shows that two countries can make a deal together.
« We’re very happy to have our hostage back. The whole Princeton University community is very thrilled, and it was a one-on-one hostage swap. Actually, I think it was a great thing for Iran — I think it was great to show that we can do something», – Trump noted.

Teheran and Washington have no diplomatic relations since a victory in 1979 of Islamic revolution in Iran. Mutual interests of the countries are represented by Switzerland.
