The Office of the ombudsman and UNICEF: together solving common issues

The mass-media of Turkmenistan received a joint message of the Representative for human rights in Turkmenistan and head of the Ashgabat representation of UNICEF, devoted to the International Day for Protection of Children.

Ombudswoman Yazdursun Gurbannazarova considers an issue of protection of the rights of children and restoration of their broken rights as her main duty and cooperation with UNICEF is a huge help and support in the solution of this problem.

During the current year employees of the office of the Representative for human rights in Turkmenistan together with UNICEF plan to hold a number of actions: thematic round tables, various seminars. It is necessary to raise constantly knowledge of employees of profile organisations, physicians, ordinary citizens of Turkmenistan in issues of protection of the rights of the child and the rights of children who do not have citizenship.

The representative of UNICEF for Turkmenistan Christine Weigand considers that it is the Office of the ombudsman in all countries is the key body which is engaged in protection of children and their rights.

Ms. Weigand is proud of cooperation with the Office of the Representative for human rights in Turkmenistan which has been working since 2017. Lately the first action plant for joint work of the Office of the ombudsman of Turkmenistan and UNICEF for 2018-2019 has been signed and realised. Seminars have been held on the rights of the child. The UNICEF has supported in development of some Laws of Turkmenistan, in particular, the Law on guarantees of the rights of the child, the Law “On guarantees of the right of youth to work”, the Law “On protection and promotion of breastfeeding and requirements to products of baby food”.

The representative of UNICEF for Turkmenistan is sure of the further expansion of partnership with the Office of the ombudsman for teamwork in the field of protection of the rights of children.
