On Tuesday with an official visit to Kabul German Defence Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer arrived. The head of military department of Germany met president of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
The parties discussed issues of Afghan-German cooperation, including within the limits of participation of Germany in NATO « Resolute Support Mission». Kramp-Karrenbauer expressed readiness to prolong presence at the country a contingent of the Bundeswehr with number of approximately 1000 persons. She also promised Afghanistan the help in the area of peace process advancement.
«We have an overall aim consisting in that the people of Afghanistan live in the safe environment, make common cause and in cooperation», – noted the minister at the subsequent press conference.
In turn, Ashraf Ghani expressed gratitude of Germany for support of his country, having noticed that Germany brings a constructive contribution to reconciliation process, and also spent three large conferences on the Afghani issue, having shown interest in stable and democratic Afghanistan.
During negotiations discussion of presidential election also took place – we will remind that national voting passed yet on September 28, but till now it remains unknown even preliminary results. Now the Independent election committee of Afghanistan holds a vote recount.
«We hope that results of free elections will be shortly declared, and all parties recognise results that will allow to generate a strong government for the blessing of strengthening of peace talks», – declared Kramp-Karrenbauer.
Recently the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas too stated that his country is ready to assist advancement of negotiations between the Afghani government and the movement “Taliban”.
At the joint press conference with US State Secretary Mike Pompeo head of German Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined that Germany is in close contact with the USA concerning the situation in Afghanistan.
«I promise Mike Pompeo that Germany will be ready to represent itself as the moderator of peace process between the Taliban and the Afghani government», – quotes Maas the TV channel “Ariana-TV”.
Last week president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in his speech at the consultative meeting of heads of the states of Central Asia in Tashkent, confirmed a position of Turkmenistan which it was also repeatedly stated earlier.
«As the neutral state and the nearest the neighbour of Afghanistan, our country is ready to offer all necessary conditions for the organisation of direct contacts between all parties interested in peace, political settlement of the situation in Afghanistan. We are convinced that there is no other alternative to negotiating process. All previous experience has shown that power methods here yield no result and have no prospect», – the Turkmen leader told.
