The Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan held a video meeting on the functioning of the Lapis Lazuli Transport Corridor. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Ilham Aliyev and Ashraf Ghani exchanged views on the prospects for developing transcontinental trade and economic ties and the role of the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Transit Route in this process.
The heads of state also paid attention to related concepts of interaction, with a focus on the current world conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The three countries have worked effectively together to counter the spread of COVID-19 and maintain the stable functioning of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor, the Turkmen leader mentioned during the video meeting. He thanked his colleagues for support Turkmenistan’s initiatives to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the socio-economic situation in the region.
For its part, Turkmenistan has not only taken measures to strengthen sanitary protection at its borders, customs and migration control, but also provided all the prerequisites for safe transport links with neighboring countries.
Mr. Berdimuhamedov emphasized the favorable geographical locationTurkmenistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan and the possibility of exit from the territory of the three countries to South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region – in the East, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean – in the West, through Iran to the Middle East – South and North – through the Russian Federation to the Baltic. According to the President, the development of modern transport system with well-thought-out logistics will allow us to fully use these opportunities.
