A group of drivers from Formula 1 and Formula E will launch micromobile races in 2021. Racers will compete in modified scooters. The races are called Electric Scooter Championship or abbreviated eSkootr.
There are no other details about the race yet, we only know that one of the organizers is Formula E driver Lucas di Grassi and former F1 driver Alex Wurz.
The organizers say that these competitions remove the accessibility barriers that are found in most other types of motorsport. Racers, cyclists, skateboarders and the like can become participants.
Electric scooter races will be dangerous – modified vehicles can accelerate to 100 km/h. To improve control, the vehicle will have large platforms, wide tires and a full suspension. But anyway, a collision and a fall at such a speed is deadly even in full protective clothing.
eSkootr is somewhat reminiscent of the Formula E electric racing car race, which kicked off in 2014. Racing will also take place on the streets of cities and be used to promote green energy, as well as the possibilities of urban transport of the future.
