The Davis Cup stage of zone #4 (Asian and Oceanian region), which was supposed to be held in Ashgabat on June 8-15, like many competitions, has been postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-2019 pandemic in the world.
“The proposal of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to postpone the date of the World Tennis Cup was supported by the Turkmen side”, commented the General Secretary of the Federation Eziz Dovletov. ITF canceled all International Lawn Tennis Tournaments until July 31, 2020.
Turkmen national team continues to prepare intensively for this major team tournament under the guidance of coach Jennet Hallyeva.
“Athletes are in hard condition. At the moment, a team of six players has been formed to represent Turkmenistan at the Davis Cup. Two other athletes Isa Mammedgulyev and Arslan Orashev, who are also members of the national team, study and train abroad. I can say with confidence that the composition is very solid. We hope that the team will perform successfully at the home championship and win,” assured the General Secretary in an exclusive interview with ORIENT.
Eziz Dovletov is a member of the International working group for the Davis Cup and the Tennis Federation Cup under the President of the ITF. At the last meeting of the group via video link, the head of the International Tennis Federation, David Haggerty, noted that the largest stage of the Davis Cup tournament is planned to be held in Ashgabat. The Turkmen capital will host athletes from 16 countries.
“We will exert every effort to ensure that the tournament is held at a high level” said the head of the Turkmen Federation.
In 2014, Eziz Dovletov, being a member of the national team of Turkmenistan, won the Asian and Oceania zone of the Davis Cup in Dubai.
“Performing at high-level tournaments, we only dreamed of hosting them in our country. And now this dream is becoming a reality” shares he.
National Tennis Federation, together with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan, has launched an active work on the development and popularization of tennis in the country.
