The issue of involving young people in integration projects in the CIS was one of the key issues at the briefing for representatives of Turkmen and foreign media, which took place after the opening of the Ashgabat Forum of Creative and Scientific Intelligentsia.
Answering to this question, Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of National Research Centre Kurchatov Institute. Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, underlined that the involvement of youth into research activities is of particularly importance. He shared the experience of such work at Kurchatov Institute as a way to attract talented youth to science.
In this regard, at the briefing, the Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS reminded the participants how the Turkmen initiative to hold school sports festival was suggested.
According to Lebedev, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina came to Ashgabat and conducted figure skating master-classes in the Ice Palace. It prompted President Berdimuhamedov to put forward the initiative of holding school sports festival in the Avaza National Tourist Zone near the city of Turkmenbashi. All expenses for teams from all CIS countries – 10 schoolchildren from each country – were covered by the host country, Turkmenistan.
– We have 11 states, and 110 people arrived at Avaza. Irina Rodnina led the organization of the school sports festival, which was a great success. Schoolchildren were happy to stay there, in my opinion, 7-10 days. This is also one of the examples in relation of our interaction with Turkmenistan in the youth sphere, Sergey Lebedev said.
